2019 Impact: 77,000 People Served
Thank you for being a part of our community and supporting our work to create a more effective justice system.
Dear Friends:
I am writing to thank you for being a part of our community and supporting us as we strive to create a more humane and effective justice system.
With your help, we now stand on the brink of achieving system change in New York City. This past year, we played a pivotal role in the effort to close the notorious jails on Rikers Island, a plan the City Council approved just last month. We are making this change happen not just through research and strategic advice, but through practice on the ground—next year we will offer alternatives to Rikers to 5,000 people.
Our work in the courts is strengthened by our work in the community to prevent crime from occurring in the first place. Our Save Our Streets outreach workers are preventing gun violence on the ground. And in all five boroughs, we are engaging thousands of young people in education and entrepreneurial programs so that they can chart positive futures for themselves.
Because you stood up for human dignity, community resilience, and the possibility of real change, the Center for Court Innovation was able to offer services and help to more than 77,000 people affected by the justice system over the past year.
From our family to yours, I wish you the happiest of Thanksgivings.
Gratefully,
Greg Berman
