In her capacity as Deputy General Counsel for CJI, Kesha Jagdeo is part of the Legal Department and assists the General Counsel in representing the legal interests of the organization. This includes providing legal advice to staff, reviewing and approving contracts and supporting the Human Resources team in employment law-related matters.
She began her legal career working for 13 years as a public defender for the New York Legal Aid Society, then worked in not-for-profit management at RiseBoro Community Partnership in Brooklyn. Her road to in-house counsel began at Vera Institute of Justice where she was Associate General Counsel and The Bronx Defenders where she was General Counsel. She received her BA in Forensic Psychology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice, JD from Tulane Law School and MPS from Cornell School of Industrial and Labor Relations.
