We build bridges between the legal system and communities to provide resources and services that strengthen safety, health, and well-being.
Eviction. Job termination. Waiting for your day in court. Each of these can carry devastating, potentially life-threatening consequences. Black and Brown, low-income, or under-resourced communities are often the least able to access the solutions and remedies that could put them back on the right track.
We build bridges between the legal system and communities to provide resources, advice, and services to strengthen safety, health, and well-being in the long term. We educate and train practitioners across the country to uphold people’s legal rights, like the right to counsel and a speedy trial. In storefronts in NYC, volunteers provide free legal information and referrals to their neighbors. We also assist parents in child-support cases; help tenants obtain stable housing, repairs, and avoid eviction; and work with the court system to streamline case processing to avoid unnecessary and harmful incarceration.
