The Center drives Community Justice nationwide through innovative research and expert assistance, sharing what we learn with justice systems, tribal nations, governments, and communities.
Around the country, we grow Community Justice through:

Increasing Communication
We foster meaningful dialogue between courts, government, and residents, tailoring our approach to the unique needs of each community.

Strategic Planning
We help jurisdictions identify ways to improve outcomes and strengthen community safety. With our deep knowledge of the nuts and bolts of getting a new project off the ground, we help plan solutions using evidence-based practices and cross-sector collaboration.

Connecting Peers
We foster connections to enable peers to learn from and support each other, no matter where they are in the country. Our network of practitioners and mentor courts help each other strengthen how their communities deliver justice and safety.

Planting Seeds of Justice
Across the country, we plant seeds of knowledge and innovation that are nurtured and grown into Community Justice to center safety and racial justice for everyone.

We have deep expertise in a wide range of legal system and public safety challenges, including gender-based violence, mental and behavioral health, tribal justice, research, access to justice, and complex systems change. As thought partners, Center staff take the time to identify and understand each community’s needs and address those needs with targeted training or specialized assistance from appropriate experts in the field. We provide remote and on-site support to jurisdictions across the country, and also host site visits to our programs in the New York City area.
By providing training, sharing what we learn, and collaborating with practitioners, policymakers, and other partners in both systems and communities, we help jurisdictions find lasting solutions to the unique challenges they face.

Improving Community Health
We focus on community-led, collaborative solutions that build neighborhood safety—from innovative court programs to investments in education, economic mobility, quality housing, mental health supports, and safe public spaces. We believe communities thrive when trust is strong both among neighbors and between residents and systems.
Working with Tribal Nations
The Center has worked with more than 60 tribes across the country to help them implement innovative practices within their justice systems. These initiatives respect tribal sovereignty by expanding tribal court jurisdiction, fostering collaboration with state and local partners, and investing in new resources to support justice-involved tribal members. Going International
We work with innovators around the globe to support people-centered approaches to delivering justice and safety. We help plan, implement, and evaluate projects, collaboratively seeking solutions to justice challenges that transcend cultural and geographic boundaries.
