An Investment in Procedural Justice

In recent years, the Center for Court Innovation has made a significant institutional investment in procedural justice—'The Simple Idea That Could Transform US Criminal Justice.'

Working in partnership with the Bureau of Justice Assistance, the State Justice Institute, and dozens of jurisdictions around the country, we have sought to improve public trust in justice by helping justice agencies treat individual litigants and victims with dignity and respect.

We have recently contributed several new products to the field:

A book, To Be Fair: Conversations About Procedural Justice, that offers interviews with dozens of practitioners who are working on the ground each day to rethink business as usual in the justice system.
A three-minute animated video, What is Procedural Justice?, that provides a brief introduction to the key elements of procedural justice.
A panel discussion to celebrate the release of To Be Fair that offers practical advice on how to improve perceptions of fairness.
An online training video about implicit bias by Professor Bryant Marks from Morehouse College that discusses race and procedural justice. Additional online learning content on procedural justice is also available.
A fact sheet that describes strategies for courts to enhance procedural justice in domestic violence cases and improve outcomes for both victims and defendants.
