Annie Schachar

Annie Schachar was formerly the director of Treatment Court Programs and the deputy director of Technical Assistance at the Center for Justice Innovation. In these roles, Ms. Schachar provided consulting services to jurisdictions nation-wide and internationally, and advises attorneys, judges, and other practitioners on issues relevant to drug courts, court-based opioid intervention programs, veterans justice, and other forms of problem-solving justice. Prior to joining the Technical Assistance team, Ms. Schachar implemented and directed the Center’s Kings County Court-Based Intervention and Resource Team, an alternative-to-incarceration program for offenders with mental health disorders. Before joining the Center, Ms. Schachar practiced law as a defense attorney with Legal Aid Ontario in Toronto, where she represented clients in drug treatment court, mental health court, and aboriginal court. Previously, she served as a prosecutor for the Ministry of the Attorney General in Ontario, working on trials and appeals. Ms. Schachar is a graduate of the University of Toronto’s criminology department and Osgoode Hall Law School at York University.
