Participants who successfully complete the program receive community service hours, a stipend, and assistance securing summer internships and jobs. NeOn Works program is available to youth ages 16-24 that are on probation. NeOn Works program is a participant-driven program where individuals may choose college enrollment/pathway, credential training, and/or job placement/referrals.
Save Our Streets (S.O.S.) is a community-based effort to end gun violence. In Brooklyn, S.O.S. works within the neighborhoods of Crown Heights and Bedford-Stuyvesant. S.O.S. works closely with local organizations, neighborhood faith leaders, community residents, and the individuals most likely to be involved in a shooting. Read more about S.O.S.
Neighbors in Action provides a variety of educational and job readiness resources for participants. This includes youth programming that emphasizes soft-skills development, certification training, civic engagement, educational attainment, and job placement. Neighbors in Action also offers internships and working and learning opportunities with stipends to many participants to further their leadership skills and professional development.
At Neighbors in Action we focus on connecting with notable community members to rally against violence.
Therapeutic Services
Therapeutic services are offered to individuals who have been impacted by community violence. Our therapeutic services are trauma-informed and culturally-responsive. They include mentorship, intensive case management, clinical interventions and supportive group workshops at our center and a variety of community spaces, including schools.
As a walk-in community center on a busy street, Neighbors in Action is well-positioned to understand and address local concerns. By hosting Legal Hand, a program that trains local volunteers to provide legal information to their peers, Neighbors in Action enables hundreds of residents each year to receive assistance, resources, and referrals related to housing, education, benefits, community concerns, unemployment, and other legal issues.
Neighbors in Action offers workshops for schools, community-based organizations, and religious groups on a variety of topics including trauma, art and social change, gun violence prevention, conflict resolution, mediation, intercultural communication, and more.
