Communities fight COVID-19: 160,000 masks and supplies delivered
You have long witnessed the stark and systemic inequalities that left communities of color more vulnerable to COVID-19.
In New York City, historic disinvestment and discrimination mean low-income neighborhoods have faced infection rates six times higher than that of wealthy neighborhoods. Death rates for high-poverty communities have been 10 times higher than the rest of the nation.
But communities have joined forces and fought back. With allies like you, our on-the-ground teams—made up of staff, community organizers, and local resident groups—mobilized across New York City and beyond to get vital resources to vulnerable people during this pandemic.
Across 17 public housing developments, our teams worked to keep residents housed, helping tenants re-negotiate leases in the wake of income loss, and leveraged the legal system to get critical repairs completed.
Alongside communities, we will continue to equip people with the knowledge and tools they need to keep themselves, their families, and their neighbors safe.
You have been alongside us every step of the way, fighting to make our world fair, humane, and just. Your continued support is more valuable than ever as we work to overcome the profound and disproportionate effects of COVID-19 on our communities.
