Responding to the Opioid Crisis
As a part of our response to the opioid crisis, we have developed two new publications to help reformers build effective opioid intervention programs, save lives, and protect communities.
The 10 Essential Elements of Opioid Intervention Courts, created in partnership with the New York State Unified Court System and a committee of experts, defines the core practices of opioid intervention courts and offers guidance to help local court systems develop their own programs.
New evidence-based approaches are needed to prevent overdose deaths, including medication-assisted treatment and wraparound supports. Court Responses to the Opioid Epidemic: Happening Now provides a snapshot of some of the strategies being used by justice practitioners around the country to prevent overdose deaths and save lives.
We have worked with the New York court system to establish new opioid interventions throughout the state, including programs housed at Bronx Community Solutions, Midtown Community Court, and Red Hook Community Justice Center.
