Top 5 Takeaways From Our Annual Report
At the Center for Court Innovation, our staff and the communities we serve met 2020's challenges with resilience and creativity.
We've been busy! Here are five takeaways from our new 2020 Annual Report.
- Ensured nearly 300 people at risk of contracting COVID-19 behind bars were released early, allowing them to finish their sentences through supervision in the community, and providing assistance and services.
- Closed resource gaps in under-served communities. At the height of the pandemic, we recognized how COVID-19 was amplifying disparities in BIPOC communities. Thanks to donations from individuals like you and the efforts of our staff, we were able to provide food, technology, and protective equipment.
- Heard and responded to the pain and frustration in communities affected by police violence by supporting community-led initiatives that build public safety through a range of prevention efforts, workshops, and trainings.
- Analyzed the impacts of the first year of New York’s bail reform. Our researchers highlighted the factors preventing the historic legislation from doing more to reduce the number of people held before trial, as New York City’s jail population continues to rise.
- Helped people find and retain secure, safe housing and obtain repairs, connecting them to legal assistance, rental aid, and social services, during a time of heightened housing and employment insecurity for many.
