As the harms of pretrial incarceration come into sharper focus, intimate partner violence poses a challenge to jurisdictions weighing the imperatives of reform against potential risks to survivors. Our study of practices across the country found few specialized pretrial alternatives in these cases with jurisdictions largely adhering to the status quo of detention, bail, protective orders, and reliance on community-based advocates to support survivors.
The "Notes from the Field" document reflects case study findings across five different localities and is intended as a tool for jurisdictions looking to reform their practices.
