Community asset mapping is an important part of the Youth Justice Board Curriculum. The asset mapping exercise developed by the Youth Justice Board staff enables young people to approach a community-based issue with an eye towards understanding what resources a community already possesses that can be part of the solution.
The Board staff have also instructed officers of the New York Department of Probation who work with young people how to implement this exercise with their probationers. These slides and hand outs are samples from a longer, more in-depth presentation that Youth Justice Board staff conduct with adults working with young people about the value of asset mapping as a youth programming resource.
